Yard work can still be accomplished in winter

You can do a lot with your yard in the non-snowy seasons, but did you know that you don't have to leave the outside alone in the winter? There are some simple DIY projects that can help you ready your yard for springtime and make your property look nice during the season, too.

When it gets cold out, your yard doesn't have to look like a barren wasteland. There are still many plants that can be planted which could really improve the look of your yard. The first, and most obvious is evergreen trees, which can last through just about any weather. After that, it depends on where you live. Warmer areas that rarely freeze can allow for most plants to grow through the winter, while further up north, only certain bushes and flowers can deal with the frigid temperatures. However, it could help tremendously to add these to your yard, it may brighten up what can be a gloomy time of year.

Another important task is dealing with crab grass. This type of pesky weed can really damage the look of a lawn, and those who really care about the exterior of their homes should try to stomp it out. However, wait until the early part of the year. Spraying a solvent that will kill off crabgrass can make your lawn look beautiful when the weather turns warm again.

Pruning overgrown plants, bushes and trees may be a good idea during this period. This will cut off dead ends of branches and promote good growth when it gets warm in the spring. In addition, make sure not to cut the plants back too far. You don't want to hurt it, you want to make sure it grows back stronger and more beautiful.

This could be the perfect time to spruce up your yard by adding stone walkways or lining gardens with rocks. The creativity can really go wild in these situations. Think of the yard as your mural. What do you want it to look like? Even more creative projects aren't typically difficult. They just need some dedication from you and the right supplies.
