DIY home staging tips for fall

With the housing market still recovering from the effects of the recession, many people trying to sell homes may already be at a bit of a disadvantage. But for those who want to put their home above and beyond the others in the area before the weather gets too cold, some DIY home staging tips may be useful, according to an article by U.S. News and World Report.

When it gets cold out, fewer people look for homes to buy, so it's smart to attract them before it gets chillier, the news source states. Acting during this time is important, and for those who are proactive, they will likely have the best setup, whether they are working through a real estate agent or selling themselves.

Curb appeal is important, according to U.S. News and World Report. While flowers tend to die when fall arrives, you can brighten the front part of the house with pumpkins and flowers such as mums, can make a significant difference to the overall aesthetic of your proprerty.

It is important to rake often during this time, as the potential buyer wants to see what is for sale, the media outlet noted. Many people are concerned that it may be a lot of work to keep the yard spotless, but it is OK to have a couple of leaves hanging around. And due to the lack of leaves on the trees, it may be important to pressure wash homes, as the lack of cover from surrounding brush may expose some not-so-perfect areas of the home.

Moderation is important when making the outside of the home look presentable, the source added, so know when to quit. There is no need to break the bank on this DIY project, and also no reason to overdo the decorations. It is much more practical to add a couple of flowers and possibly a wreath to the front of the home. Accents are much more valuable in this situation than decorations.

Making the home look comfortable is also important, according to U.S. News and World Report. Putting wood next to the fireplace and other items that may, in theory, prepare the home for winter could go a long way. Unlit candles used for decoration around the home may be the perfect final addition.
