High-end furnishings could offer home savings this fall

Homeowners who want to spruce up their interiors in time for the long months of winter may want to look for shopping deals and steals to help them furnish their home for less. While many stores may be running back-to-school style specials on products, those with a preference for high-end furnishings who do not have a high-end budget may want to check out the latest offering from Target.

Missoni, the opulent home décor designers from Italy, will be offering their wares in the national chain store beginning September 13, according to The Los Angeles Times.

Movie buffs and fashion aficionados may recognize the signature stripes, patterns and color blocks from classic Italian films, and now homeowners can grab pillows, curtains, throws and rugs designed by the long-established designers locally. Missoni will offer over 400 modest to moderately priced items for homeowners to choose from, according to The New York Times.

While those decorating their living space may want to cash in on the home savings, they may not know how to mix and match the different color schemes and patterns of the Missoni line, the source explains. Homeowners should be wary of putting too many of the bold prints in too small a space, but should not be afraid to use the items to create focal points in their home.

Home insurance extras may make for home savings

Most mortgage lenders require some type of homeowners insurance before a home loan is granted. However, a typical policy may not cover every possible disaster that can affect a home.

Those families that live in areas that are prone to flooding, hurricanes or earthquakes may want to consider bulking up their policies. While purchasing additional home insurance may seem like a burdensome expense, it may actually make for more home savings down the road, according to Money Magazine.

Financing options to help fund home remodeling projects

Homeowners often want to conduct home improvement projects. However, funding them can be troublesome if they don't have enough saved up. According to FOXBusiness, though, there are some helpful ways to get enough money to complete home remodeling efforts.

One way to do so, FOXBusiness says, is to find a contractor willing to provide you with a loan. Some large contracting companies offer lending services to homeowners with tight financing. But, before deciding on a contractor loan, the source recommends looking around for other rates to ensure you secure the best one.

Nearly two-thirds of U.S. homeowners to renovate homes this year

According to the American Express Spending & Saving Tracker study, the majority of homeowners surveyed will be investing in home improvement projects this year, with one-third of those homeowners intending to conduct green projects to make their homes more energy-efficient.

Sixty-four percent of respondents stated they will renovate their homes in 2011, the survey says. However, the amount of money those homeowners plan to spend on home repairs substantially decreased from respondents of last year's survey. This year, homeowners plan to spend an average of $3,400 to make home improvements, compared to 2010's figure of $6,200.
