Creating home and energy savings by using fluorescent lights
Many home improvement stores these days carry modern, energy-efficient fluorescent light bulbs, which can provide you with home savings as well as energy savings. Bob Vila says these are some key reasons to consider using the light bulbs in your home.
Bob Vila states fluorescent lights have gotten a bad reputation over the years for being too blase and plain - something you would only see in schools or businesses. However, more homeowners are putting them in their homes today and creating some substantial energy and home savings.
Modern fluorescents don't have that same buzzing and flickering that those old-school ones do, so if you're concerned about the lights becoming a distraction or annoyance, not to worry, says BV.
The T-8-type fluorescent lights sold today are low-noise, high-efficient fixtures, according to Bob Vila, and there are numerous areas of your home where they would be ideal to place, including your kitchen and bathrooms.
As for finding the right fixture for fluorescent light bulbs, BV states that the newer models can be used in just about any lighting fixture. Though they may take a few extra seconds to warm up, they can produce a bright light with little glare, so they won't be a strain on your eyes.
In terms of cost, Bob Vila states many fluorescent light bulbs can be bought at home improvement stores for between $5 and $25. While that may seem like a considerable chunk of change for light bulbs, consider this - you could save hundreds of dollars on your energy bills, and fluorescent bulbs can last up to 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs.
Also, the source says some energy companies even offer discounts and rebates on your monthly bills if you add more fluorescent lights to your home.
One of the best features of using fluorescent light bulbs, according to Bob Vila, is that by installing them in your home, you can cut down on greenhouse emissions.
So, when considering buying fluorescent bulbs, think about how you can not only make your home more energy-efficient, but also help the planet.
