Ways to make your swimming pool more eco-friendly
A new trend in swimming pool maintenance which many homeowners have taken advantage of is using eco-friendly pool-care equipment and chemicals. SmartMoney Magazine has a few suggestions to make your pool greener.
By using a saline water-cleaning system in your pool, you'll not only be helping the environment, put also creating some home savings, as saline is very affordable. Also, it can make the water smell fresh, and is easier on skin than chlorine, SM states.
Another way to reduce the amount of chlorine in your pool and become more eco-friendly can be achieved through using ultraviolet light filters. These filtration systems can shrink the amount of chlorine in a pool by up to 70 percent by running the water through a chamber that eliminates organic matter with UV light.
Also, a variable-flow circulation pump, which uses considerably less electricity, can save you hundreds of dollars in energy savings each year. And on top of your pool, you can use solar covers, which work by reflecting solar rays and reducing evaporation, according to SmartMoney.
