Do-it-yourself home window insulation ideas for cold weather
No one likes to be cold during the winter, and it is likely that you also are interested in saving money. By sealing up gaps in windows, you can do quite a lot to ensure your home is completely void of drafts and cold air remains on the outside of the home.
There is a very inexpensive option that could get the job done: rubber sealant. This type of cover-up is able to be pressed over the areas and cut to your liking. It will close most small gaps on the window, and you should notice a distinct difference. However, if you have to remove the sealing at one point, it is important to note it really sticks hard to the surface. This could mean ripped paint or not all of it being removed correctly.
Having a fabric tube filled with something heavy could be a good option to keep drafty sills from making your room cold. You can make one yourself, or even buy them at the store. These items are typically popular with preventing drafts on the bottom of doors, but there is a problem if the leaks are coming from around the windows, as this is no help.
One item that is more expensive is layered curtains. These are quite heavy, so they will keep anything from getting past it, and could improve the temperature in the room. Though, if you plan on going down this route, it may be important to know that these block light out significantly more than other options. However, if you are OK with that, it could be a great choice.
Insulation film can work on the window, and isn't difficult to apply to the window. You can accomplish the job pretty easily, and it will only take a hair dryer to make sure the item is flat against the window. However, the issue with this option is that it could look like mayonnaise is spread over the window. This may make it very difficult to see through the pane, so it may not be the most attractive option.
