CON ED Smart Utility program pays you to save

Posted by: Rich Levinson

If you were starting to think about installing heating and cooling thermostats or even upgrading from a simple On or Off switch, now it the time to make the leap.

If you are serviced by Con Edison, check out their 'Smart Utility' program (The Info Center article in 'Taking Care of Your Home -> Heating and Cooling' has the details).

Con Ed is offering a  free  programmable thermostat, with installation, that is also accessible via the web.  How would you like to be able to lower the heat of your home in Albany, from your hotel, while away on business in Atlanta?

This technology can save hundreds of dollars a year just by allowing you to manage your home temperature more easily for those many hours of the day when you are not home.

Has anyone in our community taken advantage of this deal?

If you have one of the old 'dial' or 'sliding bar' thermostats that give one temperature setting all the time, you are throwing away hundreds of dollars by either heating or cooling your home when no one is there, or cycling condensers or furnaces on and off when the whole house is asleep.

Programmable thermostats are easy to set up and adjust, and allow you to be comfortable and economical. A great feature is the day part scheduling (Morning, Afternoon, Evening, Overnight).
